As Seen on TV

The Neck Slimmer

As seen on TV!  The Neck Slimmer promises to tighten those gobble gobble chins that come with age.  Its like push ups for your chin.   All for the price of 1,290 Baht.  You can walk around your house, and look like you’re saying “Yes” all day.

On you can enjoy this little gadget at your work desk looking like the office lunatic.

I wonder if your neck begins to ache after a few sets with these badboys.  Can you feel the burn?  I really don’t think that when you’re pushing your 50s and 60s you should be moving you neck in a repetitive and weighted way.  I haven’t read the reviews that are posted on the net, but if you’re interested I really think you should.

Blackberry imitation

Front View Raspberry

First there was Blackberry, then came China’s Blueberry. Now, there is the RASPBERRY.

On sale in Thailand for 4,990 Baht, the newest cheap imitation of RIM’s Blackberry has hit the mobile/smartphone market in Thailand. It comes in only white, and weighs 134 grams. It can do e-mail, wi-fi, bluetooth, and it even has a TV tuner. I waiting for someone to do a review on this little gadget, and to tell me if it actually works well. I wonder if it has BB messenger, or its own little version of something similar. You can check out all the specs at www.siamphone.com

Is Emporium Ripping You Off?

Playstation 3 Video Game

Emporium sells God of War III for 4,800 Baht

Last Saturday, my wife and I went to Emporium to look for some baby books and to get a rough estimate on how much cribs, playpens, etc would cost.  Of course, Emporium was the first place we could think of since all the other malls were closed due to the Red Shirt protestors on Rajprasong.  I noticed that all the prices for baby stuff was priced in the high thousands into the tens of thousands.  I tried to justify the high prices by thinking to myself that all of these items had to be imported from abroad so there is some luxury tax that has to be added on.  Naturally, I had no idea what I was doing, and I didn’t do any research so it could have been cheap rather than expensive.  So I asked my wife if we could swing by the kids toys to check on video game prices also.

Now, my wife and I are extreme gamers.  Our PS3 is one of our most prized possessions in our house.  My wife went ballistic when our Guitar Hero Drum set broke after only the 2nd day of game play.  We’re still demanding compensation for our loss.  We have been anxiously waiting for the release of God of War III, a very graphic and violent game based on Greek Mythology.  Now, we know that we would never purchase a video game in Emporium or any department store because we know that they would be overpriced, but I wanted to know how much more were they charging.  Can we still afford it?  Was the price difference small enough to persuade me to buy a game here rather than ride the sky train to MBK?

My research in PS3 video games tells me that if I purchased an original God Of War III Zone 3 (South East Asia Version) off a video game site on the internet, then I would pay 1,790 Baht + maybe 50 Baht for shipping.  If I bought this game at a store in MBK, then the price would be around 1,900 Baht maximum 2,000 Baht.  Now, if I drove all the way to Central Chaeng Wattana and bought the game from one of the stand alone game shops there, then the price would be 2,300 Baht max.

Now, Emporium has more overhead costs and blah blah blah, so naturally the price of the same game here will cost more.  How much more?  4,800 Baht was the price that was stickered on the game in the children’s section.  I asked the sales person one more time to confirm.  Confirmed 4,800 Baht for a video game.  I believe that there is a fine line between overcharging for a product and just plain robbery, and Emporium is treading pretty close there.  Makes me wonder what other items are overpriced that we don’t know about.

The Windows Phone 7 Series might make you consider selling your Iphone or your Blackberry.

Check out Microsoft’s latest innovation and greatest addition to mobile technology.  Finally, some one realized that we all want to keep our applications running at the same time so that we can receive real time updates on what’s going on in the world.  Currently, whether you are using your Iphone or your Blackberry, you have to select the application you want to run.  Read the latest information, and then close the application after you are done.  For example,  if you wanted to receive the latest status updates on Facebook on your Blackberry, you would have to click on the Facebook icon on your menu screen, then select either “newsfeed” or “status updates” to see the latest posts.  After you are done reading, you either click the back button on your phone, or close the application.  Then, you repeat the process every time you would like to get the latest updates.

NOT ANYMORE.  The new Windows 7 series allows you to receive real time updates onto your phone without ever having to close the application.  Your real time updates change the screen of your phone constantly providing you with an ever changing up to date screen of what is happening on Twitter, Facebook, etc.  That’s what we want.  That’s how we want to feel “connected” to the world.  Check out the Windows Series 7 teaser commercial below.  I love my Blackberry, but I might have to consider this one as a serious player in the mobile market.
